What’s is Managed Hosting?
When your site resides in WordPress Managed Hosting, it sits on a server that is exclusively for WordPress websites. This enables the host to secure your website at the server level. This, in turn, ensures next level security that is always up-to-date in the war against intrusion, malware and spam. Server-side security will always be more robust and effective than trying to secure a website using plugins.
Managed Hosting also means that the host provides a WordPress specific control panel to administer to your website, making maintenance, updating and administration of your website easier and more reliable.
Updates to plugins and WordPress itself can be automated. Soon after a new version of either is released, the host will automatically update them on your website. The updated version of your site is then compared to a snapshot taken before updates were made. Maintained Hosting is similar to Managed Hosting except that WordPress Core updates and plugin updates are done by hand. The team at Clear Web Design receives notifications of updates to WordPress and any plugins on your website. We then read up on the release notes of these updates before installing them. We usually don’t act immediately, in case there are bugs in the updates. It is good practice, we believe, to wait a week or more for any bugs or conflicts to come to light and be fixed by the developers before we commit to using their updates in your website.
Staging Changes
Before updating anything, Clear Web Design backs your website up and copies your website into a staging environment. It is in this staging area that any updates are carried out. This allows us to test the staged version of the website, making sure everything works and that no bugs have been introduced, before we put it live.
